The Majestic, The Mighty, The Magnificent Last January I stood on the bank of the Zambezi, mesmerised by the raging, roaring torrent careering over the edge of the long precipice of Victoria Falls. Inspiration surged as I watched the hypnotic movement of the water dashing against rock and playfully surrounding obstacles in its way, coursing ever onwards. The energy, the beauty, the magnitude, the exhilaration, the rainbows, and the mile-high spray! Mosi-oa-Tunya, The Smoke that Thunders, is surely one of our planet’s most breathtaking wonders. Whether your last waterfall sighting was of the biggest in the world or of more modest proportions, each has its own unique beauty. Just like you! So, I give you the...
Hoopoe Easter and Hello Spring! Goodness me, March gave us a run for our money with water falling from the sky in all shapes and sizes in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. Watching the snow flurries dance around, at speed, in the Shropshire sunshine last week reminded me of growing up in Zimbabwe where we called rain through the sunshine a monkey’s wedding. African Fence Collection
Celebrating traditional craftsmanship and utilitarian beauty
Travelling around Zimbabwean countryside in school holidays and to and from sports fixtures on Saturdays, I would marvel at the sturdy yet beautiful wooden fences. Constructed from carefully selected branches, they protect and secure the precious livestock held within, practical and crafted with care and skill.
In the dry winter months, when the green vegetation disappears from the landscape, the African fence’s irregular patterns criss-cross the landscape, standing out against the arid ground and clear blue skies. Rhythm, texture and contrast, pure inspiration
